We’ve Hit a Milestone!
Happy Birthday to us! Five years ago, we celebrated our grand opening, and what a difference five years make.
Our 2016 grand opening was incredible with live performances by the Electric Cowboys and Jason Boland and The Stragglers. Houston Disc Dogs and Dogs of Barks 5th Avenue Dock Dogs “raised the woof” with their high-flying antics. Residents and soon-to-be residents got faces painted, filled their tummies and bounced around on inflatables.
Since then, our community has enjoyed numerous events planned by Solomon Delaney our hardworking, beloved Director of Fun. Solomon was recognized for all the fun he brings by the Greater Houston Builders Association who awarded him a Houston’s Best PRISM award for Lifestyle Director of the Year in 2019.
Among the 75+ events he plans each year have been an 80’s Murder Mystery dinner, a Cigar & Scotch Night, Bite Nite Fridays, Pet Palooza, pool parties and game nights. Understanding that our residents love giving back to the community, he also organized numerous charity events including a “500 Cans for 500 Homes” canned food drive last year to celebrate 500 occupied homes. Residents donated more than double that amount, giving nearly 1,100 items that equated to 947 pounds of food.
The past five years also saw the opening of The Shed. The amenity complex is the heart of our community. A place where residents can work out in the fitness room, float down the lazy river, splash in the resort-style pool and climb to great heights on the playground. We just added lighted tennis courts for residents who love working on their backhand.
Our biggest new addition is Sunset Farm. Located at the south end of Cinnamon Teal Circle, the garden is overseen by Agmenity, a company that provides agricultural amenity services to developers, HOAs, school districts and other community organizations. Farm Educators grow 60 to 80 different varieties of vegetables each year.
Last year, the garden produced enough fruits and vegetables that we were able to donate more than 1,000 pounds of turnips, radishes, beets, lettuce and spinach to the Katy Christian Ministries food pantry. This year, we hosted our first Summer Market so the public could come out and fill reusable shopping with our farm-fresh produce.
Yep. It’s been a spectacular five years. What’s on the horizon? A new Lamar Consolidated elementary schoollocated onsite. Design work on elementary school #34 is expected to begin this October with construction scheduled to start next May. The district anticipates it opening for the 2023-24 school year.
We’re opening new neighborhoods offering 415 homesites for sale. Properties sizes will range from 40-foot to 70-foot wide. Our current family of builders — Chesmar Homes, David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, J. Patrick Homes, Lennar, Perry Homes and Westin Homes — will continue offering existing series of floor plans in the new sections. Perry Homes is introducing new home designs for the 40-foot homesites. A new pocket park is also planned.
Last but not least, Texas Heritage Parkway opened in August bringing new mobility to our community. All residents can quickly get to either the Westpark Tollway or Interstate 10, which is just a mile away. That means faster trips to drop the kids off at school before work and easier access to shopping, dining and entertainment.
If you haven’t been to visit us in a while — or at all, come out and see how much we’ve grown!
